Top Tips for your wedding day!

The most important day of your life is round the corner and your stressing big time! Well, make a cuppa, put your feet up and read the rest of this post and take on board some of these great tips I have picked up since being a wedding a photographer.

Find someone you trust to steal all the photos from your guests

Yes you may have booked Matthew Smart Photography to capture your day for you, but chances are your friends and family will be snapping away on their own digital camera or smart phone. In my experience, many people don't share those pictures and they become lost and you'll never see them!

The easiest way to do this is to have the trusted person to grab hold of the guests and copy the pictures to a laptop or tablet. Ask someone you trust but preferable someone who isn't sitting on the top table (or getting leathered) - chances are they are going to be having far too much fun to worry about that!

Here are a few ways you can do this.

iPad/tablet and camera connector.

This is becoming more and more common. It's easy to keep a tablet with a camera connector close by, you can have one at the reception to the hotel, behind the top table or even one in your pocket - probably one for the gents! Most people have tablets these days, but if you don't and you don't fancy forking out a small fortune for one you could always think about purchasing one of these cheap alternatives;

  • ProntoTec Axius Series Q9 - a steal for only £30. You could use it one and give it away if you didn't want to keep it. Click here to read more!
  • BTC Flame® UK 7" Tablet PC Powerful Quad Core - A star less in the customer reviews but hey, this is for one night and still a bargain at only £36. Click here to read more!
Couple any of the above with a camera connector from about £2 and you're good to go!

Create to-do lists on Google docs

How many of you have a pad. Like a paper pad that you have jotted your ideas down on. I do it all the time! But how many of you are struggling to stay up to date with whats been done or needs to be done? Scrap pieces of paper in your handbag, draft emails with 'to do's' on, blah blah blah we've all done it! It's even harder when you have to arrange things with other people, whether that be your fiancee, photographer, wedding planner, venue etc… So do the easy thing and set yourself up a shared Google document with everything in and make sure everyone sticks to using it! That way you'll always have an up to date version of that scrap of paper!

Do a first look.

This will be one of the best decisions you make during your wedding planning. Your photographer should have already cased the joint to find the best spots for pictures and of course any potential lighting issues. It's also a sound idea to have your engagement shoot there to have a practise for the big day!

If you can organise your photographer and videographer (if you're having one) to meet you there together, you will be able to create a more robust 'Plan B' if the weather turns bad. Plus this team work will get the creative juices flowing and you'll all be able to get some fantastic wedding portraits!

As part of my wedding package, you get a free engagement shoot - so this might be the best time to get this done!

Accept that you can't please everyone.

You cannot make everyone happy, and trying to accommodate others will just make the whole process stressful and worse, unhappy. This is your day; make it about you. It really is the only day that you will get that chance.

Kiss your husband as many times as you can.

This day is about the two of you. It's about the love you share with one another and this day is for you to celebrate that love! It's proven that kissing relaxes you. Plus the photographer will have a better chance of capturing the intimate moments for you!
